NORTH OF PERU: TRUJILLO – CHICLAYO 4DAYS/3NIGHTS
The north of Peru homes a high variety of pre-Inca culture remains, in this area pre-inca cultures like Chimu and Moche developed important knowledgeable about pottery, metallurgy, architecture and astronomy which were capitalized by the Incas when they conquered these cultures.
The most important cities of the north of Peru are Trujillo and Chiclayo which can be visited in a 4days/3night program.
This program will allow you to delve into the ancient worlds of the Sicán, Chimú, and Moche civilizations with visits to Huaca Rajada (site of the Lord of Sipán mummy), the Valley of the Pryamids, Chan Chan (capital of Chimu) and much more.
DAY 1: TRUJILLO IN – CITY TOUR
Pick up from Trujillo`s airport and transfer to the hotel to drop your luggage and rest.
After resting, you will start the city tour visiting the Main Square and the Freedom Monument, the Cathedral, The Calonge Urquiaga House (neoclassical-style house adapted as a museum, which has in exhibition pieces of gold of the Chimu culture, as well as furniture of the viceroyalty and republican times), Emancipation House, “La Merced” Church. Then return to the hotel.
DAY 2: MOCHE VALLEY – RAINBOW TEMPLE –HUANCHACO BEACH – CHAN CHAN
After breakfast, the guide will pick you up from your hotel. You will head to Moche countryside to visit the “Huacas de Moche” Museum, which has pottery showing the Moche iconography. Then you will visit the Huaca de la Luna (Temple of the Moon), Moche religious center, full of murals in high relief depicting their god AIAPAEC or the beheaded, warriors, dancers, animals, giant spiders, abstract motifs, and so on.
Continuing with the tour, time to visit Huaca del Sol (Temple of the Sun), pyramid 43 meters high, built for administrative purposes and the Moche Urban Area, place where the upper class moche people used to live.
Transfer to Temple of the Rainbow also called Temple of the Dragon, used by the ancient Chimu people to worship their god; this temple is decorated with figures representing the fertility of the Earth. Then you will continue to Huanchaco, a traditional seaside, where you can watch the local fishermen on their traditional “Caballitos de Totora” or reed boats; here you will enjoy the lunch (based on fish – seafood).
Finally visit Chan Chan, an archaeological site recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This place was home to 100,000 habitants who stubbornly resisted the expansion of the Inca Empire. The city of Chan Chan was the capital of the Chimu Empire which was positioned in the region after the fall of the Moche Empire. It is the first and largest non-pyramidal structure built with mud bricks “adobe”. It covers an area of 200 hectares divided into nine separate citadels (palaces which have different rooms decorated with friezes and carvings).
Return to the hotel.
DAY 3: TRUJILLO – EL BRUJO COMPLEX – MUSEUM OF CAO – CHICLAYO
After breakfast, transfer to Chiclayo City; on the way you will visit the archeological complex of “El Brujo” and the museum of Cao; the Complex of El Brujo comprises Huaca Prieta, Huaca Partida and Huaca Cao Viejo, which has decorations in high relief of the god Aiapaec depicted in murals, the mural shows about 50 figures related to the cosmic world, mythological animals, shamans, warriors, and human sacrifices.
At this place was also found the Lady of Cao`s mummy and who was probably the ruler and priestess of that place. The Lady of Cao is also known as the “Lady of the Tattoos”, because the tattoos of spiders and snakes on her arms and legs are incredibly well preserved and can be seen in detail.
At the Museum of Cao, we can see the pieces found in the tomb of the Lady of Cao (jewelry made of gold, silver and precious stones, also pottery, textiles, etc.). Upon arrival to Chiclayo, accommodation at the hotel.

DAY 4: HUACA RAJADA – PYRAMIDS of TUCUME – ROYAL TOMBS of SIPAN MUSEUM
After breakfast, the guide will meet you at the hotel to start the full day excursion, you will visit the Huaca Rajada, the place where the Tomb of the Lord of Sipan was found. In 1987, the archaeologist Walter Alva and his team found the Tomb of The Lord of Sipán, one of the most powerful Moche governors.
His tomb is the best representation of the splendor and power of the Mochica’s governors due to the fine gold ornaments, jewelry, ceremonial objects found there.
Next, we go to the Tucume Pyramids Arachaeological Complex, a valley with 26 pyramids of mud bricks; this archeological site was the last capital of the Lambayeque and Chimu kingdom before the Inca’s arrival in northern Perú. Here, the Túcume lords resided with the luxuries of demigods, huge palaces decorated in mythic reliefs, fine furniture and jewelry. They were surrounded by priests, administrative, serving staff and skilled craftsmen. Time for the lunch.
Continuing with the journey, you will visit the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum in Lambayeque, where we find the original remains of the Lord of Sipan, certainly one of the most impressive and modern archaeological museums in South America. This museum displays more than 400 pieces like: earrings, necklaces, jewelry, ornaments and headdresses made of gold, silver, turquoise, spondyllus, cotton and feathers.
Finally, transfer to the airport to board the flight to Lima or other destination.
