At 8:00am, we will pick you up from your hotel. Drive to the south of Cusco (off the classic tourist destinations).
The south valley of Cusco offers a high variety of places and activities to do; each village located in this valley has its particular characteristic, you will enjoy visiting the archaeological sites of Tipon, Pikillacta, and the American Sistine chapel of Andahuaylillas.
Tipon was the Royal House that Huiracocha ordered to build; today we can appreciate gardens on top of blocks of stone, fountains; here the Incas reached an impressive development in their architecture, especially in their hydraulic constructions.
Continuing with the tour, you will visit Pikillacta (unique pre-Inca construction in Cusco region), the remains of hundreds of buildings, with massive walls all built from small stones. One of the most impressive aspects is that the buildings reached up to 7 meters (23 feet) in height and many two-story buildings, which were entered via ladders to doorways on the second floor.
At the thatch-roofed excavation sites, uncovered walls show the city’s stones were once covered with plaster and whitewashed.
After visiting this site, you will enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the Andean mountains and the Huacarpay lagoon.
Finally, you will visit the Andahuaylillas church known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes” because of the beauty of its mural painting. The church has a polychrome ceiling in the Mudéjar style built using a pre-Hispanic construction method which combines cane, straw, and mud instead of wood.
