Mountain Biking (Maras – Moray): Full Day

  • DURATION   : 8 hours

  • LOCATION    : Sacred Valley: Maras – Moray
  • DESCRIPTION: Natural and adventure activity
  • LEVEL            : Off road circuits – need to be in good physical shape
  • DEPARTURES: Every day. Private or shared service.

At 8:30am, we will pick you up from your hotel. Drive for almost 45 minutes until get Cruzpata; here the guide will provide you a briefing (orientation about the route, and biking techniques instructions).
The route to follow is OFF ROAD CIRCUIT (single track and cross country), it is one of the most amazing biking routes, because you will enjoy the impressive Andean landscapes, lagoon, agricultural fields, Andean villages.
During the route, our transport will be escorting us (taking your personal things and support us in case any emergency occur).
The first place to stop will be Moray, which is circled terraces that Incas took four enormous natural depressions in the landscape and sculpted them into several levels of agricultural terraces that served, hundreds of years ago, as an experimental agricultural station for the development of different strains of crops.
Between the bottom and top levels of Moray’s main depression, the scientist John Earls has recorded a full 15 degrees Celsius difference in temperature. So Incas adapted plants of the jungle or low climates to high altitude.
Time to enjoy a box lunch.
After lunch, you will continue biking toward Maras Salt mine; about halfway to Maras, the ride will become purely downhill, with some exhilarating cliff curves.
Arriving to Maras, you will admire the 3000 small salt pools with an average area of 5 m² (53.8 ft²), constructed in a slope of the mountain. People fill up or “irrigate” the pools during the dry season every 3 days, with salty water emanating from a natural spring located on the top of the complex, so that when water evaporates the salt contained in it will slowly solidify. That process will be carried out approximately during one month.
