Paucartambo, Virgin Del Carmen Festivity 2days /1night

ITINERARY

DAY 1: July 15th: CUSCO – PAUCARTAMBO – THREE CROSSES

After breakfast at the hotel, the guide will meet you to be transferred from Cusco to Paucartambo (the folkloric capital of Cusco) in the route we will visit the Chullpas Ninamarka (pre-inka tombs). After arrival to Paucartambo, we will attend the Central Mass followed by the procession.
Time to appreciate the different traditional and colorful dances that participate of this traditional festivity, where the most important and highlight dances are (Qapaq Qolla, Qapaq Chunchu, Saqras, Qapaq Negro, Contradanza, Danzaq, Mestiza Qoyacha, etc), each dance has a particular meaning/message.
At 6:00pm Transfer to the Three Crosses of Gold – 40 km north from Paucartambo, which is situated on the very edge of the Andes Mountains at a height of 12,100 feet.

DAY 2: July 16th: THREE CROSSES – PAUCARTAMBO – CUSCO:

At 5: 30am awaiting the fabulous sunrise, unique natural phenomenon in the area (it is like an optical illusion, where the sun “dances” or “plays” in the sky), recommended during the months of June and July because special climatic conditions.
Return to Paucartambo village where we will be part of the Blessing Mass.
In the afternoon, we will appreciate the last procession rom the temple, to the main square and ending at colonial bridge Carlos III, it is the most important and fervent moment for the people, because the Virgin will bless to the “four suyos” or four cardinal points.
During the procession, we’ll see the different dances (dancing or singing) and specially the “Saqras” who occupy the rooftops and balconies of the town; these are Euro-Andean devils, dressed in vivid rainbow-colored costumes and elaborate animal masks crowned with extravagant wigs.
After the procession continues the “guerrilla”, the war between the “Qollas” who represent the people of the Andes and the “Chunchos” who represent the people of the jungle (this is mock-battle in a hilarious style), then we will participate in the “Cacharpari” or general final party.
Return to Cusco.
