Short Inka Trail 2 Days / 1 Night

It is the best option for people who don´t have enough time to do the classic Inca trail.
The short Inka trail is the last part of the classic Inca trail, so you will arrive to Machu Picchu by Inti Punku (sun gate) like people who do the classic Inca trail.
The Inca trail involves a walk of 16 km to Machu Picchu, passing through spectacular landscapes of mountains and cloud forest. A long the way you will visit Inca archaeological sites, such as Chachabamba, Choquesuysuy and Wiñayhuayna (the most important complex after Machu Picchu), also the beauty of the flora (high variety of orchids), birds (hummingbirds, quetzals and cockerels).
Wiñayhuayna, located at 2,700 meters, features impressive agricultural terraces, temples, shrines, and ritual water channels.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: CUSCO – KM 104 – WIÑAYHUAYNA – MACHU PICCHU:

Very early, we will pick you up from your hotel. Transfer to Poroy train station (30 minutes driving), here you will board the train (EXPEDITION – tourist class or VISTADOME – first class) toward Km 104 (it will last almost 3 hours).
At Km 104, after checking at the Inca trail control, you will begin to walk softly, the first place to stop is Chachabamba (an archaeological site), a stone altar – site that was used to worship the sun and the mountains.
After visiting Chachabamba, you will start trekking for approximately 3 hours, up to the well-preserved remains of Wiñayhuayna (2650m/8692ft). On the way, we will see beautiful waterfalls, native flora and mountain birds. Time to rest and enjoy exploring the site with its magnificent buildings, terraces, towers, water channels. After lunch at Wiñayhuayna, you will continue walking the last part of the way, before arriving to Inti Punku (sun gate 2720m.a.s.l./8924 ft)) you must climb 50 stairs. From Inti Punku you have the first sight of Machu Picchuand. Time to take the best pictures of Machu Picchu. Then descend for 45 minutes to the entry of Machupicchu where you will board the bus to down to Aguas Calientes town.

  • Maximum Altitude: 2650m/8692ft
  • Minimum Altitude: 2100m/6888ft

DAY 2: MACHU PICHU – CUSCO:

Today, you have a full-day to explore Machu Picchu citadel – the new seven wonder of the world; the shuttle bus service will take you for 20 minutes from Aguas Calienets to Machu Picchu where you will have a 2- 3 hours fully guided tour of the mysterious ruins, visiting the most important sector of the city such as the temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana, the temple of the three windows, the mausoleum, the temple of the condor, etc.
If you are in a good physical shape you can hike to the Inca Bridge, Huayna Picchu, Inti Punku sun gate, or just wander through the ruins taking pictures.
You then return to Aguas Calientes to catch the train back to Cusco (Poroy train station), arrival to Poroy and transfer to your hotel.

NOTE: optional hike to the summit of Huayna Picchu, (Huayna Picchu now requires an extra, limited-availability permit; allowed just 400 per day. It is a 1.5 hours hike)
