Early in the morning you will be picked up from your hotel and then transferred to the harbor. We start off our boat excursion of Lake Titicaca by visiting “The Uros Floating Islands” which is located at 30 minutes from Puno; Uros is a small community that has lived on these reed Islands for decades. They used the TOTORA (reeds) to build their floating island platforms and over it they build the houses completely with reeds; also this material was used to build their canoes.

After visiting this floating Island, we continue our tour towards Amantani Island where we will spend the night. There are no hotels on Amantani Islands, but upon arrival you will be welcomed by local families; the group will be splitted into smaller groups for overnight stays with local families.

It is very beautiful and peaceful island; there are six villages and ruins on both of the island’s peaks, Pacha Tata and Pacha Mama, we will walk up to Pacha Mama from where there are stunning views of the lake and surroundings.

Your local familiy will provide traditional clothing at the house; men are given ponchos and wooly hats, the hats are hand-made by the families, with unique styles, so that they can recognize you in the hall. Women are given colorful skirts, blouses and veils.

Overnight in a familiar house.

DAY 3: AMANTANI – TAQUILE – PUNO:

After a traditional breakfast, you will be transferred to Taquile Island (1 hour on boat); in Taquile we will appreciate numerous ancient agricultural terraces and archaeological sites.

The island is narrow, only about 1 km wide, and 6-7 km long; once you reach the island you will have to walk up along a narrow path, enjoying on the way impressive views of the Lake Titicaca and also see gorgeous little houses inhabited by locals. At the top of the island you will have free time to explore and appreciate the traditional pre-Inca and Inca textiles; the most characteristic garments is the “Chullo”, a knitted hat with an earflap, and “The Calendar Waistband”, depicting the annual cycles connected to ritual and agricultural activities.
